Who this is with
Mark Hawley, trading as Quizporium, is the data controller for the personal data described below. Contact mark@quizporium.co.uk with any question or request about your data.
What we collect, and why
Your account. An email address and a password. The password is hashed with scrypt before it is stored — nobody at Quizporium, including us, can see the password itself. Used to run your account and let you sign in.
What you create. Your quizzes, bingo games, venue records, advert slides and settings. Used to run your nights and show them back to you. Your own packs are private to your account — we do not read them ourselves except with your explicit, time-limited support access, logged so you can see exactly what was done.
Billing. Which tier you are on, your subscription status, and an opaque reference from our payment processor. We never receive or store your card number — the processor holds that.
Photos from a night. Photos a player sends in during a quiz are stored against your account and shown on your projector and in your own Past Gigs record. They publish automatically to the room's screen the moment they are sent — there is no separate consent step before that, because the room can already see the projector and the photo is gone from the screen within a few seconds. You can delete a photo at any time from the console, which takes it out of the app and off any public page immediately; because photos are kept in a private, version-controlled backup, a deleted photo can still exist in that backup's history even once it is gone from the live app.
Photos and promoting a night. A quizmaster may use photos from their own nights to promote those nights — on a public photo page for the evening, or in their own marketing. The phone screen a photo is sent from says so before it is sent, which is where anybody in the room is told. Anyone who would rather a photo of them was not used can say so to the quizmaster running the night, who can take it down from the console; we will also act on a request sent to mark@quizporium.co.uk. The backup-history point above applies to a photo taken down this way too, and we will say so plainly rather than claim a removal is more complete than it is.
Players and teams. A team name typed in to join a quiz, and, where a player chooses to send one, a photo. This is not an account — there is no password, no persistent profile, and nothing is kept linking a real person's identity to a team name beyond that one night's scoreboard and photos.
Venue details. A venue's name, address and a contact email, where you choose to add them — ordinary business contact details, used for your own diary, invoices and adverts.
Why we are allowed to process it
Running your account and a night you launch is necessary to provide the subscription you have signed up for. Billing data is processed to perform that contract and to meet our own accounting obligations. Where we act on a legitimate interest — such as investigating misuse — we keep that narrow and specific to the issue at hand.
Who we share it with
Our payment processor, to take your subscription payment — see their own privacy policy for how they handle it. Our hosting provider, to run the servers Quizporium runs on. Nobody else. We do not sell your data, and we do not share your own packs, your players' data or your venue records with other quizmasters or with anyone else.
Where it is kept
Quizporium's servers run in the EU. Our payment processor may process billing data outside the UK/EU under their own safeguards — see their privacy policy for details.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards for billing and legal records. If you close your account and ask us to delete your data, we will do so, with the same caveat as above for anything already in a version-controlled backup.
Cookies and local storage
Quizporium keeps a few small pieces of data in your browser's local storage — your join token as a player, your console preferences as a host. This is not third-party advertising tracking, and we do not run ad trackers or sell browsing data.
Children
Quiz and bingo nights are often family events, and a player under 18 may type in a team name or send a photo on the night. We do not knowingly collect more than that from a child, we do not build profiles of players, and we do not market to children directly.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold on your account, correct it, or delete it, and you can ask us to export your own packs. Contact mark@quizporium.co.uk and we will act on it — and tell you plainly if something (like the backup history above) means a request cannot be met exactly as asked, rather than claim it has been when it has not.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated date.
